ATTENTION
Betty Blast here...
I need all you people from
Bomont to help me out. On Sunday, May 11, we have our tech rehearsal
which will be an all day affair and the Burger Blast is unable to make
burgers, fries and shakes, sooooooo....
if everyone brought a dish
of some sort and shared it, we could have our annual Pot Luck Tech Day.
Please call 477-2939 (cell)
or 863-6577 (home) or email at PLac207133@aol.com
and let Betty know what you'll
be bringing (anything from chips to crock pot dishes to desserts to fruit
to salad...you get the idea).
If there is more than one family
member in the show, it's ok to bring just one dish because there is always
enough food!
Thanks!
Betty

TECHNICAL REHEARSAL -
UPDATED MAY 9
This is the day all technical
aspects of the show are added. We will be using lights, sound and
drops for the first time. Each of these elements is extremely important
to our show and we must show them the same respect that we have shown the
music and the text for the past weeks. This all takes time and we
will need your full cooperation.
2:00pm
Run "The Girl Gets
Around"
2:45pm
Run "Let's Hear It For The
Boy"
3:30pm
Run "Still Rockin'"
4:00pm
Technical Rehearsal
starts.
Entire Cast and entire Crew
ready to run the entire show. Young children do not have to attend
tech rehearsal but may if they wish. They will not be assigned to
any scene changes. This rehearsal will run into the evening as we
need to run the show with all of the scene changes, light cues and musical
numbers. Since there are lighting cues within songs, we will need
to run them until we have all of the cues set. The follow spot operators
and the fly loft operators will be working with us for the first time.
This will be our first rehearsal with the sound designer as well.
All of these elements will require attention and we must be on our best
behavior.
We will take a dinner break
around 6:00 in the evening. This has traditionally been a great time
for the cast and crew to get to know each other and to enjoy a little break
in what is sure to be a long workday. As in the past, we will have
a Pot Luck dinner with everyone bringing something to add to the mix.
I have asked Patti Lacroix (Betty Blast) to be in charge of organizing
this dinner. She will explain what we all need to do. Once
dinner is over, we will return to the show and our technical rehearsal.
Be prepared for a long day.
Monday, May 12, 2008:
Newport Opera House
6:30pm call for 7:00pm start.
If you have quick
costume changes, you might want to run them today for the first time.
Check with Deb, Bobbi or Judy in the Costume Room before hand. Some
changes will have to be made in the wings so you might want to try them
now.
Run entire show. Everyone,
all scenes.
Tuesday, May 13, 2008:
South Congregational Church
7:00pm
Run musical numbers.
A specific schedule will be posted by then. We will probably start
with the large group numbers so the ensemble can leave. It is our
intention to run all numbers and run any problem musical moments.
We are not in the Opera
House this evening because of the town meeting and voting. Enter
the South Church from the parking lot in the rear of the building.
Please respect the property, as we are guests of the congregation.
Wednesday, May 14. 2008:
Newport Opera House
Everyone must sign in on
the Callboard in the Dressing rooms before 6:30pm. The show now belongs
to the Production Stage Manager. He is in charge of everything that
happens on stage. While the Director will still give acting notes,
it is the Stage Manager who runs the show. This will be explained
further in the Stage Manager’s rules.
6:30pm call for 7:00pm show.
NO ONE IS ALLOWED ON STAGE
AFTER 6:30PM UNTIL “PLACES” IS CALLED BY THE STAGE MANAGER. Run entire
show in costumes. If you need extra time to get ready, then you should
arrive early. WE MUST START AT 7:00pm. This is our last time
to get it right before the Dress Rehearsal.
Thursday, May 15, 2008:
Newport Opera House
THIS WILL BE A CLOSED DRESS
REHEARSAL. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE THEATRE UNLESS THEY HAVE
BEEN APPROVED BY THE MANAGEMENT TEAM.
All actors must sign in
on the Callboard in the Dressing rooms.
6:00pm call for 6:30pm half
hour and 7:00pm show.
Dress Rehearsal, all costumes,
make-up, hair, props…
Paul Howe, our production
photographer, will shoot the show at this performance. These are
the pictures that will be displayed in the hall and on our web site.
They will be made available to any of you who want to print your own copies.
There are to be no cameras or recording devices in the theatre the evening
of performances. This is a copyright law and one we must follow.
Any cameras or recorders that are seen in the theatre will be taken away
and held in the office until the end of the show. Please tell your
parents and friends about this rule and save everyone from a potentially
embarrassing situation.
Friday, May 16, 2008: Newport
Opera House, Opening Night
7:00pm call for 7:30pm half
hour and 8:00pm show.
No one will be allowed on
the stage once the house opens at 7:30pm. Remember that there is
no front curtain used in this show
We will find a time and
place for a musical warm up before the show.
If you have friends or family
who want to see you after the show, instruct them to meet you at the stage
left entrance to the stage. You will be allowed to meet them there
once most of the house has been emptied. They will not be allowed
back stage before the show. The Stage Manager and the Assistant Director
will police this activity.
There will be an opening
night party for the Cast and Crew immediately following the Friday evening
performance. The party will be hosted by the Board of Directors of
the Newport Opera House Association. The location will be announced
at a later date. Everyone who has worked on the show is invited to
attend. Be sure that all of your costumes are in their proper place
before you leave the theatre. There is no one to pick up after you.
Saturday, May 17, 2008:
Newport Opera House
7:00pm call for 7:30pm
half hour and 8:00pm show.
Please know that every audience
if different and that they react to different things in the show.
Do not become overly confident in your performance.
Keep up the energy, volume
and intensity.
Pay close attention to your
Stage Manager and Assistant Director as they are running the show at this
time. The Director has assumed the Front of House duties and will
only see you before and after the show.
Sunday, May 18, 2008:
Newport Opera House
1:00pm call for 1:30pm half
hour and 2:00pm show.
This is our final performance
and the audience deserves the same show we delivered on opening night.
All of the rules of performance
and theatre behavior still apply.
STRIKE follows the final
performance and everyone involved with the show is expected to participate.
We must have the set down and the costumes, props and lights all put away
before we leave the theatre. There is another event moving into the
Opera House on Monday. This strike should last less than two hours
if everyone helps. You will be assigned to specific teams each of
which will have a detailed list of jobs. We have been doing this
for years and we have worked out a system that works if everyone just falls
in and takes an active part. We will require all visitors to move
from the theatre so we can start work immediately. This strike will
be our last official job together. Once again, your Stage
Manager, Costumer, Technical Director, Lighting Designer, Assistant Director
and Director will be in charge of this operation.
There may still be some
changes made to this schedule to meet any special needs of the production.
Follow the Call Board on the web site for updates.

A FEW NOTES FOR THE CAST
Welcome to the FOOTLOOSE family. This production
marks a new milestone here at the Newport Opera House in that it is the
first time the organization has produced a musical that is almost completely
generated by teenagers. Over the next ten weeks, we will be working
together as a team to tell a story of an American family forced to face
some major realities and deal with them in a manner that will save their
family and their community. Many people will be involved in this
production both on stage and behind the scenes. They are all of equal
importance and their contributions are all of great value to the success
of FOOTLOOSE. We must all work together to create a show that we
will be proud to present to our community.
The Newport Opera House Association is pleased
to include this musical in their 2007-2008 season of events. The
interest created by the spring musical is very important to the organization
and you will find that the entire community embraces this event with great
acclaim. As director, it is my job to keep everything together.
I have a very clear vision for the show and I know exactly where I want
it to go and what I want it to look like and sound like.
While the work may be hard at times, it can also
be great fun and lasting friendships will be formed. It should be
just like any other team sport. I often say that theatre is the most
collaborative of the arts. Together we shall prove that! As
actors, we must always respect the work of the technicians, the designers,
the musicians, the volunteers and the salespeople out packaging our show.
Every element is important and if one fails, we all fail.
If you are not willing to be a team player, now
is the time to step aside and let the process go on without you.
You must check your ego at the door and replace it with team spirit.
Now is a good time to remind you who the captains are for this team effort:
FOOTLOOSE will be presented in the Newport Opera
House on Friday and Saturday, May 16 & 17 at 8:00pm and on Sunday,
May 18 with a 2:00pm matinee. The entire cast will be required to
attend a Tech rehearsal on Sunday, May 11 (Mothers’ Day) starting at 2:00pm
and could very well go into the early evening. Rehearsals will not
be scheduled during the school vacation week (April 28 – May 2).
As a general rule, rehearsals are planned Monday through Thursday.
On rare occasions, a Friday rehearsal is possible but the weekends will
remain free with the exception of the Sunday, May 11 Tech rehearsal.
