| Dear
Friends of the Newport Opera House:
At the end of THE MUSIC MAN once Professor Harold Hill has worked his magic and transformed the citizens of River City, he is ready to leave town only to discover that he has “caught his foot in the door” and cannot run away. Well, that is exactly what happened to me following our spring production of the musical at the Newport Opera House. For now North Carolina will have to wait as I take on more challenges and dedicate my energy to making the Newport Opera House the center for culture and community activity in the Greater Lake Sunapee area. It is through your support that the Newport Opera House Association has been able to grow since its creation in 1974, and it has continued to provide a wide variety of programming focused on the Newport community. Housed in this beautiful historic building, we have been able to offer entertainment ranging from rock dances to ballroom dances, comics and humorists, plays and musicals, dinner theatre and interactive theatre, concerts and local talent. The Opera House remains a venue with countless possibilities. It is truly a building for the whole community, and as an organization, we want to make everyone welcome in their Town Hall/Opera House. Our programming costs are rising constantly, and we try very hard to keep our ticket prices affordable to all of our patrons. In short, the ticket price does not cover the cost of the production. In some cases, only about half of the cost is covered by the admission price. We must come up with the additional funds through sponsorships, memberships and grants. In order to give you what you want to see and enjoy, we need your help. We need you to become a member and support your Newport Opera House Association. With your help and support, the 2007-2008 season can be the most successful ever. The Newport Opera House Association is an IRS recognized 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation and contributions are tax deductible to the full extend of the law. All members will be listed on the Membership Display Board located in the lobby of the Opera House and will be published in the program for major productions. You will also receive advance mailings for major events that will allow you to order prime tickets before they go on sale to the general public. The funding from the community remains our greatest support, and ensures our place in the day-to-day workings of the town. The Newport Opera House belongs to each of us and we must remain its stewards. Take time now to make a contribution that will help to keep the Opera House alive. Charles H. Massey
